Duke’s Pareo represents the 1960s, when the aloha shirt became part of everyday life in Hawaiʻi and beyond. As workplaces began embracing aloha attire, it moved from a resort novelty to an expression of island identity—worn from the office in Downtown Honolulu to evenings out. Worn prominently by the world-renowned surf ambassador, Duke Kahanamoku, the print became part of a broader shift toward relaxed, island-informed style.
One of Kahala’s most recognizable designs, Duke’s Pareo is recognized for its bold scale and pared-back color. This 90th Anniversary edition revisits the original print, now printed on the face of the fabric. Crafted in our signature cotton broadcloth using discharge printing for rich color and a soft hand, it’s finished with vintage-inspired details including a classic collar, French front, matched pocket, and coconut buttons. Made in Hawaiʻi and offered in Black and our signature Red.
Part of our 90th Anniversary Through the Decades Collection, with one archival print reissued each month to honor a defining era in Kahala’s history.
