Poi Pounder draws from a 1960s Duke Kahanamoku by Kahala heritage print inspired by Hawaiian petroglyphs, or ki‘i pōhaku, images carved into lava rock by Native Hawaiians to record daily life, navigation, and spiritual beliefs. Figures of paddlers, animals, and geometric markings appear across the islands, forming one of Hawai‘i’s earliest visual languages.

The print reflects the stylized approach to island imagery that emerged in midcentury design. As Kahala celebrates 90 years of shirtmaking in Hawai‘i, Poi Pounder returns from the archive in our signature cotton broadcloth. Made in Hawai‘i, the shirt features a matched front, coconut buttons, and a vintage-inspired collar. Offered in Natural and Navy.
