Duke’s Pareo
Originally introduced as Pineapple Pareau, a nod to the South Seas, this design took on a new life through the people who wore it.
Produced under Kahala’s Duke Kahanamoku® label, it was worn by Duke himself alongside his elite surf team—nationally recognized figures who helped bring the style to a wider audience. Around this same time, aloha shirts were becoming part of how Hawai‘i dressed beyond leisure, as the Hawaiian Fashion Guild advocated for what became known as Aloha Friday, reshaping business wear across the islands.
With its bold scale and pared-back palette, Duke’s Pareo stood apart and grew into something more lasting. Created for our 90th Anniversary, this edition stays true to the original, printed on the face of the fabric rather than our traditional reverse, and finished with a petal detail marking 1936–2026. Today, it remains Kahala’s most iconic and bestselling print—worn then, and still worn the same way now.
