In Japan, the tradition of folding 1000 origami cranes, known as senbazuru, is believed to grant the folder a wish. Today, Senbazuru has evolved into a heartfelt gesture, often given to those facing adversity as a symbol of hope and well-being.  

Inspired by our iconic "silkies" from the 1930s, we partnered with the same Japanese fabric mills that produced our originals to create an exclusive rayon filament, which we then cut and sew in Hawai'i. With improved printing techniques, our camp collar styles have the cool and relaxed look of the original, but with an updated smooth feel.

Hawai'i tailor shops used deconstructed kimono fabric to fashion some of the first aloha shirts. This 1940s heritage print depicts scenes inspired by a renowned Japanese masterpiece titled "The Tale of Genji." Look closer and you'll discover two women enjoying a game of go and a man playing the flute in elegant garb against the backdrop of lush gardens.

Multiple generations of the Okamis work side-by-side with their team of builders sharing the aloha spirit through their masterfully built koa wood instruments and passionate attitudes toward their craft. 

Developed by our in-house artists, the KoAloha print features hand-sketched profiles of their ukuleles collaged with handwritten notes of characteristics specific to their instruments. From the distinguished outline of their headstock to their iconic "musubi" sound hole, every unique detail of the KoAloha ukulele can be found in our aloha shirt.
